Abstract:

The role of two factors, a the diversity of goal preference within a group and b the relative similarity between an individuals goal preferences and the priority of goals established majority rule by a group decision, as determinants of an individuals reactions to such decisions were examined. The results indicated that diversity of goal preferences within the group signficantly influenced individuals behavioral support of the group decisions, rated satisfaction with the decision, rated representativeness of the decision, the difficulty in reaching the decision, and ratings of how committed an individual thought he would be to the decision. Behavioral support and rated satisfaction with the group decision were further influenced by the relative similarity between individual and group goal orderings. Author
