Abstract:
The objective was to develop a method of measuring axial dispersion of a solute in turbulent pipe flow. This was accomplished by correlating laser light beam absorption with axial dispersion of ink with the hope also fo gaining an understanding of the dispersion mechanism. Light beam attenuation by the ink pulse was measured with a photodiode and recorded at two locations. The theoretical density distribution was based on the first order source of axial dispersion, the velocity gradient. Author
