Abstract:
A numerical analysis of a supersonic, inviscid, steady flow past a blunt-nosed cone at yaw is presented. The numerical technique is suitable only for shockless flows. The purpose of the paper is twofold to show how accurate results can be obtained with a coarse computational mesh and short running times, and discuss the physical evolution of the flow from a blunt-body pattern to a conical pattern. The formation of a vortical layer is followed in detail. Asymptotic results are compared with the results of an independent calculation for pointed cones. Author
