Title:

A Longitudinal and Comparative Analysis of the Stress Effects on Civilian Personnel of an Announcement to Close Some Naval Shipyards.

Corporate Author:

BARUCH COLL NEW YORK

Report Date:

1972-06-01

Abstract:

The study investigates the social psychological consequences of differential stress resulting from an actual Brooklyn and potential Portsmouth job displacement upon Naval shipyard civilian personnel. Three subsamples of employees from the Brooklyn and Portsmouth yards were compared with one another over three points in time Shortly after the announcement to close the yards and one and two years later. The hypotheses were tested within a stress model in which Brooklyn was designated as a high stress yard and Portsmouth a low stress yard.
