Abstract:

The digitizing procedure used at the Naval Postgraduate School was investigated for possible sources of noise and other errors. Signals of known form were digitized throught the Analog-to-Digital Hybrid computer system Ci 5000XDS9300. Similar signals were generated by digital programs on the IBM 36067. The resultant signals were analyzed by the computer programs UBCFTOR, which computed the Fourier coefficients of each block of data, and by UBCSCOR, which computed the power spectra of the signals. The power-spectral plots of the computer-generated signals were compared with the power-spectral plots of digitized signals. The analog-to-digital process appeared to be relatively noise free.
