Abstract:
Transient temperature distribution in axisymmetric systems of incompressible fluid flow through semi-infinite, externally insulated cylindrical pipes is considered under the assumption of constant uniform velocity and constant material properties. The general problem, including all significant heat transfer mechanisms, except radiation, is reduced to an integral equation containing only one unknown function, namely an interface temperature as a function of time and unknown function, namely an interface temperature as a function of time and axial position. By neglecting one or more heat transfer mechanisms, several other formulations are obtained. These are analyzed so as to provide approximate and closed form solutions not previously available. Similar formulations and results are obtained for the case of fluid between parallel plates. Author
