Report Date:

Abstract:
A normative model of leadership behavior is described. The model utilizes a taxonomy of leadership styles expressed in terms of decision processes, varying in terms of the amount of opportunity for subordinates to influence the decision. The general proposition that the effectiveness of any leadership style is dependent on the situation is translated into an analytic framework expressed in terms of a decision tree for analyzing the attributes of the particular decision to be made and specifying the most effective decision process. The research underlying the model is described and the model is applied to a set of cases to illustrate its behavior. Author
