The study and description of the effective thermal conductivity of disperse systems are made difficult by the fact that in real systems the shape and dimensions of the individual particles may differ significantly. As a result, the structure of the layer in various parts will not be the same. This fact complicates analysis of the system. But for most engineering problems, when calculating heat transfer, it is sufficiently to know the average physical characteristics of the layer the bulk density, the porousness, the effective thermal conductivity, etc. Author
