Abstract:
Research has centered on the parallel analysis procedure as a method for determining the number of statistically significant common factors. This procedure has been described by Humphreys and Ilgen 1969B. The procedure involves construction of a matrix of intercorrelations of random normal deviates, based upon the same N and n of the matrix of real variables, and factoring each matrix with squared multiples of the diagonal. The curves of the latent roots in the two matrices are compared. The crossing of the curves in the hypothesis tested indicates the number of factors to retain and rotate. Author
