Corporate Author:
ARMY MISSILE COMMAND REDSTONE ARSENAL ALA ADVANCED SENSORS DIRECTORATE
Report Date:
1972-01-03
Abstract:
The report is the first in a series discussing the results of a Field Artillery System Technology Program to develop a ruggedized guidance unit using strapdown body-fixed optics and electronics. The task goal is the development of a unit which will functionally survive high-g launch shocks up to 12,500 gs and be suitable as a back-up to the present Cannon Launched Guided Projectile Program. The individual optical components tested will be oriented towards a wide field-of-view plus or minus 20 degrees, refractive-optics, 1.06-micrometer wavelength seeker having a clear aperture of 1-12 to 2 inches in diameter. The report presents a discussion of the survivability of some optics which have been fired, presents a preliminary material analysis between various composition glasses and plastics, and describes some candidate hemispherical dome materials.
