Title:
PROPAGATION OF SOLAR PARTICLES TO THE POLAR CAPS.
Corporate Author:
AEROSPACE CORP EL SEGUNDO CALIF LAB OPERATIONS
Report Date:
1969-12-15
Abstract:
Measurements of solar particles over the polar caps by satellite-borne experiments are summarized. Solar protons down to about 200-keV energy and solar electrons to about 40-keV energy reach the polar caps. In general, solar electrons illuminate the polar caps uniformly during a solar particle event in contrast, solar proton fluxes exhibit a great deal of spatial structure. Some diffusion of solar protons across the magnetic field is required in order to account for the experimental results. Author
