Abstract:

The kinetics of the process of joint formation in solid-state welding of Al2O3 ceramic to niobium was investigated. Calculations of the time of development of physical contact in welding Al2O3 and niobium, based on the conditions necessary to obtain a required creep rate, showed that total physical contact is formed with a temperature of 1500C, a pressure of 1.5 kgsqmm and a time of 1000 sec. Thermodynamic calculations of the interaction of aluminum oxide with niobium pentoxide indicate the possible formation of a chemical bond at 1500C. The possibility of joining Al2O3 ceramic to niobium, using the calculated parameters, was proven by experiment. Author
