Report Date:

Abstract:
An evaluation of candidate electrical power systems capable of providing up to 6.5 kW for an earth orbiting mission is presented in this report. Three power systems could be ready for a mid-1970 launch, if proper funding were provided for development programs. They are a Solar CellBattery System a ReactorThermoelectric System and a ReactorOrganic Rankine System. The preferred system for the proposed mission is the ReactorThermoelectric system, based on its inherent simplicity, lower weight, lower unit costs, and high degree of technology readiness relative to the competing systems.
