Abstract:
The main focus of the research has been on communications in the Soviet Union and China during crises, with some supplementary work on communications in other communist countries in the third world. The impact of the communications revolution was examined, especially the spread of radio in the process of modernization in developing countries and in the process of social change in the Soviet Union. The substitute system developed in China to achieve communication without major capital investment and subject to tight controls on information from the outside, was also examined. Author
