Abstract:

A hypothetical aircraft-to-ground communication channel is examined for frequencies in the 2-30 MHz portion of the MF-HF band, and the 200-400 MHz portion of the VHF-UHF band. The channel is characterized in terms of its correlation function and scatter function. Particular attention is given to the effects of multipath spread and frequency spread on the performance of a noncoherent, frequency-shift-keyed, matched filter receiver. The effect of aircraft motion on channel multipath spread is also examined. Author
