Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to obtain dimethylsilazane polymers by catalytic polymerization of dimethylcyclosilazanes in the presence of ammonium chloride and hexamethyldisilazane with and without pressure. Ammonium chloride was found to promote not only the polymerization of dimethylcyclosilazenes but also their polycondensation, especially at temperatures above 300 degrees centigrade. Due to slow decomposition by ammonium halides, the hexamethyldisilazane is hardly suitable for chain breaking during the polymerization of dimethylcyclosilazanes. Author
