Abstract:
The effect of various abrasives on the protective effectiveness of a 0.4 aqueous stannous fluoride solution was tested. Calcium carbonate and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate completely destroyed the ability of stannous fluoride to reduce enamel solubility. Significant, but intermediate, effects were found for insoluble sodium metaphosphate and two brands of calcium pyrophosphate. Addition of tin pyrophosphate did not decrease the effectiveness of stannous fluoride below control level. Author
