Abstract:
The vibration amplitudes and the strain distribution at resonance in a ring-stiffened cylindrical shell were investigated theoretically and experimentally. The Love-Kirchoff assumptions were modified because it was found necessary to account for the transverse shear strains and stress and strains normal to the reference surface. The relationship between shear factor and analytical results was studied. Four displacement functions were considered, and it was concluded that the function used by Galletly is sufficiently accurate up to 3000 cycles per second for the particularly shell dimensions considered.
