Abstract:
An area of particular interest has been the distribution of intervals between axis-crossings. Increasing emphasis is placed on solving the zero-crossing problem which concerns the zeros of a continuous random function. A mathematical solution has yet to be accomplished. This thesis describes the digital system designed to measure the time between axis-crossings of a random process. The system is identified as a Time Interval Distribution Computer TIDIC. At present, none of the probabilities or probability densities can be derived explicitly by analytical methods. Several approximations to the probability density as related to Gaussian processes have been formulated to date. In addition, a technical description of the measurement equipment and a brief survey of the progress to date are included. Also, experimental data is compared to the theoretical results. Author
