Abstract:
A brief discussion of the advantages of diving methods in hydrobiological investigations is followed by the description of observations conducted by the Zoological Institute of AS USSR in the summer of 1962. The institute investigated the coastal belt of the gulf known as zaliv Posyeta in the Sea of Japan. This is a significant location for the reason that, first, the gulf lies near the boundary between boreal and tropical biogeographical regions, and secondly, it is inhabited by variegated benthic invertebrates and plants. The plant and animal complexes are discussed in connection with the type of bottom, beaches, shores, tides and exposure to winds. Thus, a detailed information on the plant and animal life in various sectors of zal. Posyeta can be obtained. Author
