Abstract:
The techniques of matrix isolation were used to obtain the infrared spectra of several high temperature molecules. An injector Knudsen cell was added to the general methods of matrix isolation resulting in further versatility of the method. Spectra of species produced by the reaction of a condensed phase and gas phase can now be studied. The following molecules were studied HBO2, BOCl, BOF, FeF2, CrF2, CrF3, CrCl2 and LiOH. In most cases tentative frequency assignments were made and structural properties inferred. Atomic resonance line absorption studies were carried out on AlN. The heat of formation at 298K was found to be -71 8 plus or minus 2 kcalmole based on the observed vapor pressures. Author
