Abstract:

The problem of antenna processing for surface target detection in clutter is considered in this report. The general problem of the hypothesis testing and estimating of N targets in clutter and noise is formulated by means of decision theory. The theory is applied to the case of a single, nonscintillating target with unknown a priori amplitude, phase, and location. The a priori statistics of these parameters are assumed, and target detection is accomplished by means of a generalized likelihood ratio test. The hypothesis test is instrumented for clutter as well as receiver noise. Both scintillating and nonscintillating clutter are considered. Author
