Abstract:
Strength results for short, simple tubular specimens of graphite and boron nitride were obtained for tension-compression stresses. These results agree well with previous data obtained with longer tubular specimens which were not simple cylinders. Preliminary strength results also are given for graphite for a temperature of approximately 2000F. A few room temperature tests were conducted for compression-compression stresses. A unique compression test method was used to test graphite rods where the end surfaces of the rods are loaded by means of fluid pressure. Data for magnesium silicate were reevaluated and compared with the modified maximum strain energy theory. Author
