Abstract:
The absorption spectra of 12 rare earth ions Ce3 to Yb3 in silica glass were determined at wave lengths of 0.25-5.0 microns using glass of the basic composition 25Na2O.75SiO2 plus 0.24Tr2O3 where Tr is the transition element. The specific peak absorption wavelength, frequency, energy level and vibration energy of the rare earth ions are tabulated. The absorption spectrum of Nd3 was also investigated in fluoride, phosphate, borate, and silica glass.
