Abstract:
The document describes means for producing a plasma in thermodynamic equilibrium without externally applied potentials. A cesium plasma is produced in an almost completely closed container, the container being maintained at a high temperature. Due to the low ionization potential of cesium 3.87 ev, one can obtain plasmas of interesting densities and properties at temperatures from 1500 to 2500K. Such plasmas have properties dependent only on temperature, the energy levels of cesium strictly speaking of both neutral and ionized states, the work function of the container, and on the total amount of cesium present.
