Abstract:
A summary is given of research, the ultimate objective of which was the synthesis of small ring compounds fused to an aromatic frame, such that the aza-atom was either exocyclic or endocyclic to the small ring. Topics include Ring expansion of 1-indanones to cyclic hydroxamic acids Oxindolylene chemistry Reactions of 2, 3-disubstituted quinoxalines Origin of the carbonyl doublet in 2-indanone and trans-hexahydro-2-indanone Syntheses of cis- and trans-7-azabicyclo4.2.0octanes Preparation of beta-lactams containing an exocyclic double bond Synthesis and reactions of cyclic amidines.
