Title:
PHOTOMULTIPLICATION WITH MICROWAVE RESPONSE,
Corporate Author:

Report Date:

Abstract:
In this paper, some recent results of an investigation of a new kind of photomultiplier which is capable of microwave response is presented. In this method of amplification, called dynamic crossed-field electron multiplication DCFEM, the energy for electron multiplication is obtained from a microwave electric field rather than an electrostatic field, and the multiplication takes place upon a single secondary emitting electrode. This method provides a rigid control of electron transit time through phase focusing thereby making possible a large amplification of weak photoelectron currents varying at microwave rates.
