Abstract:

The problem of the generalization of perception is considered in terms of the relationship between the external object and perception its subjective image. When we encounter a certain object or phenomenon, we compare it with other objects and phenomena. The comparison, which from the very beginning is generalized, thereafter is rendered more precise by the process of differentiation. But in all cases there is, corresponding to sensation and perception, not a single point stimulus but a whole series of stimuli, within the range of which series that stimuli are perceived as one. The reflection of reality by the organism has, in one degree or other, a generalized character. This generalization may take place on different levels, and reaches its highest development in human thought.
