Abstract:
The Dn,p2n reaction is treated in a direct interaction framework wherein the phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potentials of Gammel and Thaler are used to describe the perturbation interactions. Tensor forces as well as central forces are included and final state interactions among the particles is considered. The final state is pictured as a continuum deuteron plus free neutron or as a continuum dineutron plus free proton. To the extent that this picture is accurate, it is found that the main contributions to the cross section are supplied by the doublet to doublet transitions. The calculations furthermore suggest a best choice for the triplet even parity central potential. A comparison with the experimental results of Ilakovac and co-workers at 14.4 MeV is presented.
