Abstract:
A literature survey was made on possible aqueous and non-aqueous electrolyte systems suitable for use in a battery employing continuous and throttled introduction of both oxidizing and reducing components. Liquid ammonia systems using sodium and calcium were established as reducing components suitable for continuous introduction into a battery system. These electrodes were limited by the resistance of the diaphragms employed. It appears probable that a practical reducing component without the use of a diaphragm can be developed by introducing the solution through a porous, electronically conducting electrode.
