Title:

Report Date:

Abstract:
Tests of the gelatinizing efficiency of esters of Lauric, Adipic, and Phthalic Acids have shown the phthalates to be superior to the adipates and dicyclohexylphthalate to be more efficient than dibutylphthalate in the gelatinization of Grade C nitrocellulose and guncotton. The important role played by variations in the ratio of ether to alcohol on the acceleration or retardation of gelatinization and in increasing or decreasing the amount of plasticizer required, has been demonstrated. A recommendation is made concerning the use of the newly developed method in evaluating the efficiency of colloiding agents for Grade C nitrocellulose and guncotton.
