Abstract:

The rising tide of paperwork which has engulfed the management community in recent years has created increased interest in the problem because of soaring overhead costs, disruption of information systems, and other resultant inefficiencies. Growth, trends and the results of paperwork during the past ten years, were examined from the viewpoint of business, the Federal Government and the United States Navy. The causes of paperwork, presently available tools of records management, and emerging developments to aid information systems were investigated to obtain a broad overview of paperwork, its magnitude and approaches to a solution.
