Report Date:

Abstract:
This is the fourth quarterly progress report of a program aimed at improving the interlaminar shear strength of filament-wound reinforced plastics. The first portion of the program, which is summarized in the annual summary report, involved the screening of several potential methods of improvement. It was shown that the resin system was of prime importance for high shear strength, but improvements which could be made with new resin systems were limited. It was found that a mechanical shear tie could be utilized to further improve the shear strength. This report contains analytical work which was performed in an effort to optimize this shear tie or overwinding. This analysis will be utilized in the design and fabrication of several biaxial cylindrical specimens for compression testing. Author
