Abstract:

Presented are results of measurements of motion and changes of brightness in prominences from movies obtained in H-alphaofhydrogen by means of a narrow-band interference-polarization filter in 1948-1950 and for a short time in 1951. The discussion of results of measurement of motions allows us to 1 divide all prominences into three classes according to the type of motion predominant in them, and to give detailed characteristics of these classes and specific motions for them 2 to obtain some knowledge of the nature of observed motions in prominences motions of electromagnetic and turbulent character 3 to obtain knowledge of the spectra of turbulence in the solar atmosphere. Study of the changes in brightness allowed us 1 to detect variations in emission of knots and jets and to find the relationship of radiation-damping time to size of knot 2 to detect flares in the emission of eruptive prominences and to find their connection with sudden changes in velocity of motion. There is indicated the possibility of explaining radiation damping of knots by a process of heating of the prominence by the surrounding corona. Author
