Abstract:

Efforts were continued on a production engineering measure for improving the reliability of the 2N1358A germanium transistor. This report is a review of the work during the fifth quarter, April 30, 1963 to July 31, 1963. During this quarter the fourth quarterly report was submitted, approved and distributed. An extra engineering sample group of transistors was submitted. Of the seventeen active process and equipment programs, eleven are completed and in production use, four are installed and undergoing production trials and deugging, and two are in development stages. The development of the programs to revise the alloy regrowth process to minimize spur regrowth and assembly revisions to minimize wisp formations are being complicated by interactions from some of the other processes being introduced. Failure rates and graphs of parameter distributions of Milestone III tests are included. Preliminary information from Milestone IV transistors is presented. The manufacturing daily sampling tests are beginning to show some of the improvements resulting from the PEM program. The efforts were directed primarily toward improvement of the device storage capability. Author
