The design of the unregulated converter circuit was optimized. Peak efficiencies as high as 81.5 to 85 were obtained with input voltages in the range of 1.0 to 1.5 volts. The converter circuit was capable of furnishing 50 watts of output power at 68 to 83.5 efficiency in the same range of input voltage. It was found that to achieve high efficiencies at very low input voltages, it was necessary to use a larger output transformer with very large wire sizes to reduce the IR drop in the circuit. The converter showed that peak efficiencies from 80 to 84 were attainable with input voltages from 0.6 volts to 1.0 volts respectively.
