A two surface metallographic technique has been used to study the morphology of upper and lower bainite in a series of low to medium alloy hypo eutectoid steels. Upper bainite produced at 925 F forms as long, thin needles or rods with an approximately rectangular cross section while lower bainite produced at 575 F forms as true plates. Author
