Abstract:
It is postulated that changing the chemical environment of unstable NF moieties may yield new energetic materials having desirable properties. Known high-energy species are being used for the synthesis of NF compounds. Metallic mercury reacts with FNClCO2R where R ethyl or isopropyl to form mercurials, which analyze well for HgNFCO2R2. The starting material, FNClCO2Et, is regenerated on treating the corresponding mercurial with elemental chlorine. Elemental iodine appears to give i-PrO2CNFNFCO2i-Pr rather than FNICO2i-Pr. The new coupling product is being further investigated as a precursor to N3F5 andor N4F6. Author
