Corporate Author:

Report Date:
1966-02-09
Abstract:
This document presents the results of theoretical and experimental researches into the detection problem of submerged metallic objects by means of ULF electromagnetic, EM, energy. Analyses of a conductive mediums EM transmission characteristics, and propagation mechanism are developed. Elements of system design considerations including an examination of reflector qualities and submerged coaxial antenna properties are presented. Field experiments demonstrating a near-surface and near-bottom detection techniques are described and their results discussed. Finally a plan of approach is presented showing a course for the contained study of electromagnetic methods in the detection of submerged metallic objects. Author
