Abstract:
Comparisons are made between experimentally determined and theoretically predcted total forces and moments at angles of attack, drift, and fairwater plane deflection for four specific high-speed submarine configuration. The purpose of the comparisons is to evaluate the methods developed in Part I of this report for predicting the vortex interference effects induced by the wake shed from the fairwater and fairwater planes. Since only totalforce and moment data are available, methods are also described in Part I for predicting forces and moments in the absence of vortex interference. The comparisons indicate that the theoretical methods for predicting both vortex-induced and non-vortex-induced effects are satisfactory for normal force and pitching moment at angle of attack and side force and yawing moment at angle of drift. The agreement on normal force and pitching moment at angle of drift and the vortex-induced normal force and pitching moment for fairwater plane deflection are less satisfactory. Author
