Abstract:

The development and engineering tests are summarized of the Thermograph T-3, a thermal imaging system which is a far infrared device for producing pictures of objects and terrains from the infrared radiation emanating from such objects and scenes. The design goals of the Thermograph T-3 have been achieved to a large degree. Major deficiencies are weight of individual packages, lack of complete control of input signal to low-frequency channel, and image quality of certain targets. Despite the deficiencies, the over-all performance is compatible with the present state-of-the-art of thermal imaging. The Thermograph T-3 based on the performance of the T-3 and prior systems can be employed by forward observation personnel to obtain useful information with respect to terrain features, troop and vehicular activities, and employment of certain types of camouflage.
