Abstract:

This second of a seven-report series based on the results o a major survey of the training, utilization, and proficiency of Navy Electronics Technicians ETs was conducted in the Pacific Fleet and the western United States during the first half of 1961. This report is based primarily on an nalysis of t o check lists used in the survey the Equipment Experience Check List and the Perfor ance Check List. The major use of this report is intended for school administrators. Tables 1 and 2 furnish information about the proportions of E s who work on specific equipments. The major table in the report provides information on both the experi nces ETs have ha with 292 specific ta k and their proficiency on these tasks. Additional findings of interest were that ETs indic ted maintenance e perience on a total of 242 separate equipments, considerable specialization, especially at lower pay grades, on either communications or radar gear exists, proficiency increases with age and pay grade, proficiency as me sured by derived check list scores is significantly related to proficiency indicated by supervisors rating , proficiency was not related to either technical school grades, years of education, or classification test scores.
