Abstract:

INFORMATION COMPILED FR A LITERATURE SURVEY AND FROM STL experience is presented in this document as an aid to the design and fabrication of electronic equipment for space vehicles. Data are presented concerning the behavior of materials in space, covering information not available in the usual engineering handbooks. Space environment is considered in terms of temperature, high vacuum, micrometeorites, radiation, and other phenomena, with particular attention to the effects of such environment, insofar as they are known or conjectured, upon plastics, organic and inorganic materials, metals, and upon electronic parts.
