RESEARCHES ON THE INFLUENCE OF SOME MINOR CONSTITUENTS OF THE SOLUTION ON HYDROGEN OVERVOLTAGE OF CU SINGLE CRYSTALS

The influence of 10 to the -5th power Ml of Cd and 10 to the -4th power Ml of As, Sb, and In in 0.1M H2SO4 on the H overvoltage of Cu polycrystalline and single crystal cathodes, oriented following the 111, 110, and 100 planes, was investigated. In the cd range studied, due to the presence of Cd and In, the Tafel line was broken into two branches, shifted one from the other, having almost the same b value. In the presence of Sb, or As, the overvoltage vs log cd plot remained linear, but the slope value for As is lower. Author
