A FILAMENT SCINTILLATION CHAMBER MEASUREMENT OF THE RATE FOR MU SUPERSCRIPT MINUS PLUS C SUPERSCRIPT 12 GOING TO B SUPERSCRIPT 12 PLUS NU

To check the predictions of a Universal Fermi Interaction, negative muons were brought to rest in a 1-12 inch filament scintillator chamber and the rate for the reaction - C12 B12 was measured. Ninety-seven B12 events were observed, giving a capture rate of 6.6 .9 x 103 per second. This number is in agreement with the predictions of a Universal Fermi Interaction, a pion induced pseudoscalar term with gP 8 gA, and a conserved weak vector current. An extensive discussion of the construction and operation of the filament chamber and associated image tubes is included. Author
