Corporate Author:

Report Date:

Abstract:
A study was made of the transmission reliability of vehicular VHF radio equipment to investigate possible means for improvement. It was found that 1 a significant gain in reliability of transmission over the planned operating range of currently programed vehicular-radio equipment can be obtained by elevating the height of the transmitting antenna by a feasible amount 2 additional experimental data on propagation between vehicle-mounted radio equipment operating in the vhf band are needed for better prediction of transmission reliability and system performance and 3 range performance of vehicular radio as generally stated without qualification may be misleading equipment currently programed for installation is estimated to have marginal transmission reliability for the stated operating ranges.
