Abstract:
Efforts were devoted to a new higher working voltage variable capacitor diode, the SCS-116. The SCS-116, an electronic tuning device, serves to complement the family of devices already being produced. From the general theory of capacitance of a semiconductor p-n junction, it is obvious that the higher working voltage allows a wider depletion region width, i.e., larger capacitance ratio. The capacitance range is only increased provided the base width is not limited. The SCS-116 capacitance ratio C-1 vdcC-200 vdc of greater than 8.9 is a significant increase over the SCS-62 capacitance ratio C-1 vdcC-100 vdc of greater than 6.4. This allows a 40 increase in tuning range over the SCS-62 at the expense of some loss in figure of merit. Author
