Abstract:
Flow graphs are suited to formulate and analyze mission-success cost, reliability and engineering factors such as thrust, load, mission distance. Flow graphs provide 1 a realistic model as detailed as needed for a specific purpose 2 modular building blocks for constructing flow graphs of complex systems 3 an orderly logical formulation for proceeding from component to subsystem to system 4 a graphical representation of functional dependence which clearly distinguishes between dependent and independent variables 5 techniques for alternative formulation by elementary flow graph transformations or by topological equivalence as required in synthesis procedures 6 a design aid which permits the effects of parameter variations on the system response to be ascertained by inspecttion 7 a quantitative results obtainable by clearly defined operations and 8 transfer of a large volume of detailed information.
