Title:
DEVELOPMENT OF FINE DIAMETER, HIGH STRENGTH TI-13V-11CR-3AL WIRE
Corporate Author:
TITANIUM METALS CORP OF AMERICA TORONTO OHIO
Report Date:
1961-11-15
Abstract:
THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT 0.004IN DIAMETER Ti-13V-11Cr-3Al wire can be produced to ultimate strength levels of about 285 Ksi. Occasionally, the 300 Ksi ultimate tensile strength objective was met, but not predictably. To realize the maximum strength, it has been found necessary to acid pickle 5 to 10 from the diameter of the heat treated final product. Twelve pounds of 0.004in diameter wire was produced in a 23,000 foot continuous strand. It is believed that 8,000 foot minimum lengths can be guaranteed for this product and that with further process development, the 300 Ksi ultimate tensile strength aim could be exceeded. Author
