Title:
CRACK INITIATION IN METALLIC MATERIALS
Corporate Author:
SYRACUSE UNIV N Y
Report Date:
1961-08-01
Abstract:
The study is aimed at correlating the fundamental properties of materials obtainable from tensile, bend, combined stress state tests and metallographic and X-ray diffraction studies to the initiation of fracture in the presence of a notch or a crack. The experimental program will therefore consist of two phases which can be conducted simultaneously 1 study of the fundamental properties, and 2 fracture initiation studies in the presence of notches and cracks. Both phases will be conducted on high purity W recrystallized to several grain sizes and tested at various temperatures to study the effects of ductility. Author
